Ambient air quality in Thailand has been deteriorating rapidly over the last decade, but encouragingly enough the ambient air quality is also improving in certain areas. The interest from public bodies as well as the general public to reduce the pollution levels has been  rapidly increasing. Air Quality Management has become of utmost interest for Thailand.

Co-operation between the Thai and Swedish Governments through the Pollution Control Department (PCD) and a network of Swedish experts has been going on since 1990 (B.E. 2533). The co-operation activities have resulted in an advanced Air Quality Management System, which can address a variety of important issues for all kinds of persons involved within the field of environmental protection.

The project formally finished in late year 2000 (B.E. 2543). The Final Report is available here. (pdf format 518 kb).

As a result of this co-operation, the PCD is now capable of

The future work at the PCD has also been a priority task in the project and has focused on the

By taking advantage of the extensive experience in Sweden from working with these tasks, it has been possible to optimize the development of the activities. The concept of working with a network of experts from different organizations has been effectively implemented in the project.

On the Swedish side, the County Administration of Västra Götaland (former Provincial Government of Göteborg, PGGB) has been the responsible body. The project management has been carried out by Conexor Sensus AB. The financing of the project has been shared between the PCD and the Swedish International Development Co-operation Agency (Sida) (former BITS).
